DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING TENNIS PROGRAM

September 22, 2006 09:08 PM

The WTA has once again offered the life-long sport of tennis to a special group of  enthusiastic deaf and hard of hearing children.  Sessions were held at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf in Delavan, Wisconsin on May 9, 2006, at the Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt, Wisconsin from June 25 thru June 30 and July 2 thru July 7 and at the Milwaukee Sign Language School on June 11, 18, 25 and August 1, 2006.

More than 400 children took part in the program.  They demonstrated a keen interest in participating while being taught the fundamentals of tennis.  Many of them were disappointed when the program ended and expressed an interest in continuing to play..

Over the years the WTA has financially supported this beneficial program.  Many of the children’s teachers have personally thanked me for our efforts and have further indicated to me how much the program has helped some of them develop self-confidence and discipline.

Anyone who has any questions or wishes to become involved, please contact Howard Myers at 414-962-0565 or e-mail hnmyers@wi.rr.com

Thank you.
