WTA continues support of Midwest Senior Team Championship

July 11, 2003 04:29 PM

2004 is the year for the Wisconsin District to send a full team to the Midwest Senior Tennis Championship in Lansing, Michigan on May 14-16.  Doubles players are needed in men's and women's 35, 45, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and men's 80s age divisions.

In recent years, the Wisconsin District has not fielded a full team at these championships.  The resulting defaults in empty age categories makes it impossible for Wisconsin to have a good showing at the tournament.  At its last meeting, the WTA Management Committee voted to pay entry fees and support the team in 2004, but to possibly discontinue funding in future years if a full team can not be sent.

Strong players from around the district are encouraged to call the WTA office, 1-800-WIS-TENN for further information.  Players can apply as individuals to be paired with another applicant or as a doubles team.  The adult tennis committee will select the team based on player records at tournaments, league play, or other information.
