Exciting tennis was played against opponents from Northern Cal, Southern Cal, Intermountain and Southern Sections.

Wisconsin’s team included Rita Daniels, Nancy Heiden, Sherry Ploor, Cathy Kestle, Judy Terry, Barbara Mueller, and Elizabeth Barnhill. Due to airline problems, some team members were stranded in Cincinnati during the first match and just pulled in from the airport in time for the second match. This forced a forfeit of the 3rd court and a loss to Southern Cal after splitting the other two courts. In the afternoon, with the team in full force, Midwest defeated Intermountain. Saturday saw a loss of 1-2 to Northern Cal with both losing courts having a set ending in a tiebreaker. Finally, a strong Southern team defeated Midwest on Saturday afternoon.

The weather was sunny and warm, the jasmine was perfuming the air, and Daniel Island, where the Center is located is surrounded by waterways and dramatic bridges. In addition to tennis, eating soft shell crabs, crab cakes, grouper and shopping the open markets provided great entertainment.

A Saturday evening barbecue of pulled pork and chicken followed by music and dancing provided great camaraderie. Southern hospitality was evident in the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff and locals. The team enjoyed a great weekend of tennis.
