Congratulations to the Milwaukee Tennis and Education Foundation (MTEF), who was named the winner of the USTA Midwest Section NJTL of the Year Award. Jay Massart, Executive Director of MTEF, accepted this prestigious award Saturday, December 12 in Indianapolis. The special ceremony is held each year in conjunction with the USTA/Midwest Section Annual Meeting.

The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation (MTEF) NJTL Chapter started in 2003, and has steadily grown and expanded programming. During 2009, MTEF served a total of 3,000 children in all its programs. This year, QuickStart Tennis was introduced to 900 youth at the Milwaukee Public School’s Community Learning Centers.

A new feature this summer was the introduction of weekly Jr. Team Tennis teams at different sites. Also, MTEF introduced a healthy living curriculum to this year’s summer program. Children learned about proper food choices and healthy lifestyles.

MTEF services a number of children in the First Serve Program, its after-school program. Also, MTEF is actively involved with the USTA/Midwest Section in numerous activities and events, especially the NJTL Regional Rally. This year's event was hosted by former tennis professionals Luke Jensen and Gene Mayer.

In addition to Milwaukee’s selection as the 2009 USTA NJTL Section Chapters of the Year, MTEF is a nominee for the 2009 USTA NJTL National Chapter of the Year.
