Bill Reichertz - Volunteer of the Month

June Volunteer of the Month - Bill Reichertz from Watertown, Wi.

Bill Reichertz has been an active tennis player and member of the Watertown Tennis Association. Realizing the need to build youth involvement in tennis, he became the Watertown Tennis Association Junior Coordinator in 2005. In that first year, the program was a Tuesday evening instructional session with play mixed in as well. There were 15 players the first year and 33 players the next year. Growth and enthusiasm have been outstanding under his leadership. In the second year, the format was changed to individual play.

For the past three years, Bill has also organized the Watertown Tennis Association Junior Tournament. This year, Bill has been the driving force in the creation of the new USTA Lake Country Junior Tennis League. Bill will be the Local League Coordinator involving the communities of Watertown, Heartland, Beaver Dam and Oconomowoc with teams for 14-and-under and 18-and-under divisions. He has also helped to bring the 10-and-under USTA/Midwest Section Junior Team Tennis Pilot Program to Watertown. None of this would be possible without the group effort of past and current leaders in the WTA CTA. Without their encouragement this would never have been such a success.

Bill commented, "I used to ride my bike into town and then play tennis for three hours. There's nothing like some social tennis on a beautiful summer evening for a teen. And it really is a lifetime sport."

Bill's uncle, Robert Hahn, who is 84 years old and taught him how to play.

It is a pleasure to nominate Bill for the special award and acknowledge his commitment, enthusiasm and dedication to the sport of tennis.
