Wendy Tauscheck tennis bio

Unlike many other tennis enthusiasts, I did not play tennis in my youth. I began taking lessons in my mid 30’s at the Sports Core with a group of other moms and was immediately hooked! I began playing in club and USTA leagues-singles, doubles and mixed- which I still do today.

When my daughters were tennis players in high school, I volunteered to help with practice. When the Kohler High School boy’s coaching position became available, the district administrator asked me to apply. I was somewhat floored to be asked, as I had no coaching or teaching background, but he felt strongly that a coach with a passion for the sport could be an asset to the program. I have coached the Kohler boys since 2000 and the girls since 2002, and I am proud to say the tennis program has become very successful! Kohler High School has been recognized as a USTA No-Cut High School, and the program attracts an increasing number of participants – this season, I have a record 27 girls. The boys team won both conference and sectional championships in 2006, earning a trip to team state. I have had a number of boys medal at state in the past 5 years.

I received the honor of Coach of the Year from the Wisconsin High School Tennis Coaches Association in 2007. I have served on the Division 2 WIAA State Seeding Committee for 4 years. I have organized a USTA Recreational Coaches Workshop and earned the certification USPTA Developmental Coach. I am considering taking the next steps to become a USPTA certified pro.

I serve as the tennis coordinator for the Village of Kohler Recreation Department, offering summer youth lessons and adult drill sessions. This program has also seen a steady increase in participants. My role is to format the offerings and coordinate, train and supervise the instructors, most of whom are current and former Kohler High School tennis players.

I have also become highly involved with the Sheboygan County Tennis Association, a Community Tennis Association, whose mission is to provide low-cost tennis opportunities to the youth of Sheboygan County. This year, I worked with other local organizations and tennis enthusiasts as Local League Coordinator to expand Junior Team Tennis on a countywide basis. We had a very successful year, with 82 participants in JTT. We look to build on that and get more youth involved in future years.

In the meantime, I continue to take tennis lessons with Kip Koross, play on a USTA 4.0 ladies team, which has qualified for state a number of times in the past 5 years, as well as other club leagues. Outside of tennis, I love to spend time at our lake cottage in northern Wisconsin. I also have a passion for slalom water-skiing, and am learning to enjoy golf (with my husband’s encouragement).
