The School District of Cudahy and the Cudahy Recreation Department celebrated the opening of the new community tennis courts at a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Cudahy High School Courts.  Included in the ribbon cutting ceremony was a presentation of a $3500 check from the Wisconsin Tennis Association for new tennis programming.

Dignitaries attending the event were Cudahy Mayor Tony Lee, Cudahy School District Superintendent James P. Heiden and Cudahy High School Principal Chris Haeger, and Jim Papala, School District of Cudahy Director of Business Services, Wayne Meyer, Athletic Director and Matt Orlowski, Cudahy Recreation Director along with Wisconsin Tennis Association Junior Coordinator, Judy Veloff.

The School District of Cudahy Board of Education authorized the completion of a resurfacing project in excess of $50,000 funded with the remaining proceeds of the District’s 2009 tax qualified no interest bonds.  The renovations included repair and resurfacing the 7 existing tennis courts.

Judy Veloff, Wisconsin Tennis Association Jr. Coordinator, delivered the Wisconsin Tennis Association Grant to the Cudahy School District and Recreation Department.  The grant will be used for the 10 and Under Tennis program which introduces tennis to youth 10 and Under using age appropriate equipment and court size.  Specifically, the funds will be used for “blended lines” on the courts to accommodate youth instruction on smaller courts.

In cooperation with the Wisconsin Tennis Association, Athletic Director Wayne Meyer and Recreation Director Matt Orlowski will introduce 10 and Under Tennis in Cudahy beginning with a Coaches Training Session on August 20.  To introduce 10 and Under Tennis, the new community courts will host a USTA PlayDay in Cudahy, Saturday, September 8, 10am-Noon.  The public is invited to enjoy tennis fun and instruction.  These events are the introduction to the new 10 and Under Cudahy Recreation Tennis Program that will begin September 21.
